Plein Air Oil Painting – Landscape Workshop in the Cheshire Countryside Paint directly from the landscape. Join Cheshire Art Classes for an immersive plein-air oil painting session set in the beautiful Cheshire countryside. This workshop is about painting in the moment—responding directly to the landscape around you using expressive, wet-on-wet techniques. Guided by artist Dan Bethell, you’ll explore composition, observation, and mark-making in the open air. There are no predetermined outcomes—just the freedom to explore the environment, materials, and your own creative response. What you’ll learn: ▪️ Observing and simplifying the landscape into geometric shapes ▪️ Building your colour palette from direct observation ▪️ Sketching with paint to explore composition ▪️ Layering paint over a toned ground for depth and atmosphere ▪️ Using expressive, wet-on-wet techniques and varied mark-making ▪️ How to blur, suggest, and abstract forms to create painterly imagery What to expect: ▫️ A relaxed, small-group session (max 8 participants) ▫️ Everyone completes their own 12" x 12" painting study ▫️ Tuition tailored to individual experience levels ▫️ Inspiration and guidance in a stunning rural setting What’s included: 🖼️ 12" x 12" canvas 🎨 Oil paints, mediums, and palette 🪑 Easels, tables and all essential equipment is provided. What to bring: 🖌️ Your own brushes (recommended: a small selection of synthetic oil brushes and natural hog hair brushes) 👕 Apron or suitable clothing – painting outdoors can get messy! 🌿 Weather-appropriate clothing and sun/rain protection 💡 Not sure which brushes to bring?
