Our Knutsford courses welcome students from Knutsford, Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Macclesfield, Altrincham and the surrounding areas, making Marthall an ideal location for structured oil painting courses across Cheshire East and South Manchester.
In August 2025, we expanded to our third location in Marthall, near Knutsford. Over the years, we've welcomed many wonderful students to our weekend courses (Farndon, Chester) who regularly travelled from Cheshire East, Manchester, Liverpool, the Wirral and the surrounding areas to paint with us.
We decided it was only fair to bring Cheshire Art Classes closer to home, creating a new creative community in Cheshire East while building on everything we've learned through teaching across our other locations.
Marthall offers dedicated structured oil painting courses, with each course focusing on a specific subject such as landscapes, still life, birds and many more. Through live demonstrations, colour-mixing tutorials and step-by-step guidance, these courses provide strong painting foundations while helping students build confidence and develop their own style.
The results have been incredible, with many students producing artwork they never imagined possible. Seeing that progress is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching.
Each course includes a professional linen canvas, printed reference images, all paints and materials, and optional professional varnishing. New students are welcome on every course, making it easy to join whether you're a complete beginner or looking to build on existing skills.
Please wear suitable clothing, bring an apron, and ensure you can safely take your finished artwork home after each session. Brushes are not included, but you're welcome to bring your own or purchase one of our recommended brush set.
Structured Oil Painting Courses
Marthall offers themed 4–6 week courses, allowing you to develop your skills through a complete painting project. Each course explores a different subject, such as landscapes, birds, still life or portraiture, with step-by-step tuition, live demonstrations and colour-mixing guidance.
Everything You Need to Succeed
Each course includes professional-quality materials, including a linen canvas, printed reference images, all paints and mediums, so you can simply arrive and paint. Optional professional varnishing is available at the end of the course to protect and enhance your finished artwork. Students are asked to provide their own brushes, or a recommended brush set can be purchased through the studio.
