Master the fundamentals of lighting, styling and composition.
Service Description
Join us for a one-off introductory session designed for artists, creatives, and complete beginners eager to explore the fundamentals of still life photography. This practical hands-on class will guide you through lighting, composition, styling, and camera settings to help you capture beautiful reference photographs for painting, drawing, and creative projects. Throughout the session, you’ll work with carefully arranged still life setups while learning how to control mood, atmosphere, and visual storytelling through photography. What You'll Learn: 📸 Photography Foundations: Understand shutter speed, ISO, aperture (F-stop), and white balance — and how these settings affect your images. 💡 Lighting Techniques: Explore natural and artificial lighting, learning how light and shadow shape form, texture, and atmosphere. 🖼️ Composition & Styling: Learn how to arrange objects, create focal points, and compose visually engaging photographs. 🎛️ Camera Confidence: Gain practical experience using manual settings to create sharper, more expressive images with greater creative control. Why This Course Matters: We’ve been asking our students what they’d love to learn — and photography keeps coming up time and time again! Whether you work directly from life or use reference imagery, creating your own photographs gives you complete control over lighting, composition, colour, and subject matter while bringing more originality and personality into your artwork. Equipment Information: 📷 If you own a camera — DSLR, mirrorless, compact camera, or even an iPhone or smartphone — please bring it along. This session is designed to help you better understand your own equipment and how changing settings can dramatically affect your photographs. No specialist equipment is required. What’s Included: 📚 Lighting demonstrations, styled still life setups, photography guidance, and recommended equipment advice for continuing your practice at home. 👥 Small class size limited to 8 participants for personalised instruction and support. Whether you’re completely new to photography or looking to improve your artistic reference images, this session offers a relaxed, supportive, and highly practical introduction to still life photography.
