Curious about oil painting? Whether you're completely new to art or exploring a new medium, this relaxed, hands-on session is the perfect place to start. In this 4-hour weekend workshop, you’ll learn the core techniques of oil painting in a friendly, supportive environment—no prior experience needed. Taught by professional artist Dan Bethell, this workshop offers a step-by-step introduction to the essentials of working with oil paints, giving you the confidence to continue creating at home or pursue further study. What you’ll learn: ▪️ Choosing the right surface for oil painting ▪️ Understanding your colour palette ▪️ Brushes and tools: what to use and why ▪️ Colour mixing demonstrations – learn how to mix clean, vibrant colours and avoid muddy results ▪️ Blending and layering techniques for depth and texture This session is ideal for: ▫️ Beginners who want to try painting but aren’t sure where to start ▫️ Artists from other mediums wanting to experiment with oils ▫️ Current students looking for 4 extra hours of guided tuition in a smaller group What’s included: 🎨 Oil paints 🖼️ Turpentine and mediums 📄 Painting surface (if selected) What to bring: 🖌️ Your own oil painting brushes (a basic range is fine) Synthetic brushes are preferred and often referred to as acrylic brushes. 👕 An apron or suitable clothing – oil paint can stain! 💡 Not sure which brushes to get? Visit our Artist Blog for recommendations – most new students prefer synthetic brushes over hog hair. Important Booking Info: 🖼️ New students – please make sure to select the "Including A3 canvas" option when booking. 🎨 The "No canvas" option is for returning students continuing a previous painting.
