Abstraction
Abstraction
A freedom from representational qualities in art.
Service Description
Discover the beauty of the earth from above and transform it into powerful abstract artworks. In this immersive 4-hour course with Cheshire Art Classes, students will explore aerial imagery—such as satellite views, farmland patterns, and city grids—as inspiration for a series of expressive studies and a final oil painting. Working from Google Earth landscapes and curated imagery, participants will first create a series of sketches and experimental watercolour paintings to explore form, rhythm, and colour. These playful studies will then inform a final piece: a 10x12" oil painting panel where students can experiment with layering, texture, and abstraction techniques. Through guided exercises and creative exploration, you’ll learn how to simplify real-world imagery into bold compositions, unlocking new ways to see and paint the world. What to Expect: Explore and respond to aerial imagery through sketching and watercolour Develop visual ideas for abstraction from real-world landscapes Learn basic techniques in oil painting, with a focus on experimentation Produce a complete 10x12" abstract oil painting panel inspired by aerial views Who It's For: Open to artists of all levels—ideal for beginners wanting to build skills, or for experienced artists looking to refresh their practice with new inspiration.
