Woodland & Forest Landscapes in Oils - Chester Discover the rich colour, atmosphere, and depth of woodland scenery in this inspiring 4-week oil painting course, designed for beginners and developing artists who want to build confidence painting trees, forests, and natural landscapes. From filtered light passing through the canopy to twisting branches, textured bark, and layers of foliage, you'll explore how to simplify the complexity of a woodland scene and create paintings with a real sense of depth, atmosphere, and light. 🖌️ What You'll Learn Across four relaxed and supportive sessions, you'll explore: 🌳 Simplifying woodland scenes into shapes, tonal areas, and layers without becoming overwhelmed by detail 🎨 Mixing natural, harmonious greens and earth colours to create varied and convincing woodland palettes 🌲 Painting trees, trunks, branches, and foliage using expressive brushwork, broken colour, and varied edges ☀️ Capturing light and shadow, including dappled sunlight, contrasting temperatures, and light filtering through trees 🖌️ Creating texture and surface through dry brushing, scumbling, glazing, palette knife techniques, and expressive mark-making 🌫️ Creating depth and atmosphere using tonal values, colour temperature, overlapping forms, and atmospheric perspective 🧴 Exploring oil painting mediums to create transparent shadows, luminous layers, subtle transitions, and areas of thicker texture 👩‍🎨 Live demonstrations and personalised guidance throughout every stage of the painting process By the end of the course, you'll complete a woodland or forest landscape on canvas while developing practical techniques that can be applied to your own landscape paintings. 🧰 What's Included ✔️ 400 x 400 mm Standard canvas supplied ✔️ All essential painting materials provided* Please bring your own brushes, palette knife, and apron. A selection of hog bristle, filbert, flat, and softer blending brushes will be particularly useful for this course, allowing you to explore everything from textured foliage and bark to softer atmospheric passages. 📍 Location: The Five Villages Hall, Station Rd, Backford, Chester, CH1 6NT 📅 When: Wednesday mornings, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm Please note that occasional gaps may occur when the hall is hired. ✨ Spaces are limited — early booking is advised. Once a course has started, it cannot be cancelled or rescheduled. If you are unable to attend any session during the course, no refunds or credits will be issued, as costs are committed for the full course duration. If you wish to cancel your place, you must do so at least 7 days prior to the course start date to receive a full refund.
